Matt Boothman

Show me complexity and confusion, and I’ll tell you a clear story.

Hi, I’m Matt, a writer, editor, producer, interviewer and strategist.

I specialise in making sense of complex subject matter by finding the story in it. I make content to help organisations make sense to their audiences, and I make fiction to help make sense of the world. I like talking to people and discovering the stories they’re telling together, whether that’s to help a company with staff engagement or to help friends have fun around the gaming table.

My work

Writer & Strategist @ Redhouse

2010–present

I joined agency Redhouse as an editorial intern and grew and changed as the company did. I quickly branched out from editorial work into communications strategy, culture and branding, and now enjoy a broad range of duties and client relationships.

Highlights so far have included editing magazines for Laing O’Rourke and the Institute of Asset Management; writing tour descriptions for City Wonders; editing and producing short dramatic films for the Royal College of Nursing, and documentary films for NHS England; producing impact reports for Pearson; developing branding for Blueleaf and the Government Office for Science; and creating campaigns to recruit allied health professionals for the Office for Students, and to address workplace behaviour for University College London Hospitals Trust.

Host & Producer @ Merely Roleplayers

2017–present

Merely Roleplayers is a podcast where theatrical people play roleplaying games.

I developed the programme from concept to launch. I also organise recording sessions, host the programme, carry out all editing and post-production, and promote the programme on social media and by networking at industry events.

Co-host @ The Blackshaw Arts Hour

2016–2018

I co-hosted Blackshaw Theatre Company’s fortnightly arts programme on Riverside Radio, including leading the programme’s regular movie discussion segment.

Arts Journalist

2009–2012

I wrote theatre and comedy reviews and columns for The List, the British Theatre Guide and other publications.
